Daniel Ratcliffe, The Woman in Black

I’ve just watched an interview on MSN/ITN with, as everyone is calling him now Dan Ratcliffe, and I have to say how impressed I am with his handling of the media during the launch of The Woman in Black.
Daniel is a credit to his ‘team’ who have done a great job preparing Dan for the wider world after Harry Potter brought stardom. This is borne out by the comments received from Jonathan Ross and his wife Jane Goldman. Even Corey Feldman was impressed but had some sage words of advice,

How has 2012 started for you?

I recently cleaned up my email file and came across this from my mate Geoff Fairfield at Spark Coaching, these are some of the notes that he made at a Make 2011 Your Best Year Yet conference in July 2011, how many resonate with you as what you need to do to make 2012 your best year yet!!

So here are some of the quotes and ideas he wrote down…

  • You don’t get what you deserve, you get what you influence
  • To succeed in life, add more value to other people.
  • Mind your own business… and influence someone else’s business… with honour and integrity.
  • The law of Cause and Effect- nothing happens without a cause. You can either be ‘at cause’ and make things happen in your life the way you would like them to or you can be ‘at effect’ and be part of other people’s lives.
  • Being Responsible = Being Response Able
  • The meaning of communication is the response you get from others.
  • Decisions are made in an instant- we rationalise them afterwards.
  • To influence people words account for 7%, voice tonality 38% and physiology 55%.
  • Some destructive words that you should eliminate from vocabulary are Try” and “But”.
  • Powerful words that you should include are “Because” and “Yet”.
  • We all have ‘strategies’ for things that we do. One of them is a ‘Decision Making Strategy’. When you learn NLP you will learn how to elicit people’s decision making strategies. Would that be useful in sales? I think so.
  • Add value to people by a) helping them remove pain and b) gaining pleasure.

The final one resonated most with me as that is what I as a coach aim to do, I aim to help people remove a pain and gain pleasure in their lives.
